Category language matters because it gives buyers, researchers, investors, and policymakers a shared way to discuss an emerging capability. This note connects several public Gartner abstracts and explains what practitioners should examine next.
What the research says
Gartner's November 2025 research describes intelligent simulation as using scenario planning and simulation twins to reinvent complex industry processes. Its June 2025 adoption analysis emphasizes real-time prediction and simulation-twin capabilities as part of the category's development.
In 2026, Gartner also applied the concept to smart-city management and named intelligent simulation among its top supply-chain technology trends. The supply-chain description adds AI, machine learning, and advanced analytics to traditional modeling for more dynamic planning and proactive operations.
Why the framing matters
Across these sources, intelligent simulation is broader than making one solver faster. The category connects representations of a system, changing observations, possible scenarios, and decision workflows. It moves simulation from an isolated design activity toward a continuing operational capability.
That breadth also creates an evaluation challenge. Different vendors may use learned surrogate models, physics-based computation, simulation twins, optimization, general-purpose AI, or combinations of those methods. Buyers need to understand which method produces each result and what evidence supports its use.
What buyers should evaluate
A category label does not determine whether a platform fits a specific workflow. Buyers should evaluate the scientific method, source authority, deployment boundary, evidence package, recovery behavior, and the complete path from a question to a reviewed decision.
- Which models, observations, and assumptions govern the result?
- Can another qualified expert inspect and replay the evidence?
- Does the workflow operate inside the required security boundary?
- How are uncertainty, failure, and unresolved work represented?
- Does the system improve the complete decision cycle for the target use case?
Our perspective
Intelligent Simulation defines the category as a scientific operating model that connects models, data, computational experiments, expert judgment, and reviewable evidence across the life of a research or engineering question.
PrimeRadiants emphasizes native scientific computation, governed execution, and evidence that can support qualified review. Gartner included Tadros Industries, our parent group, among the sample vendors for Intelligent Simulation in its 2026 Emerging Tech Impact Radar: Generative AI.
